Grateful Alive <----See What I Did There?!

The other day I was watching a television show that had a therapist as a guest.  She said the number one thing people need to do more of is be grateful.

I try to be grateful, I try to thank others when they do nice things, help me out, send presents or cards, I try to put it out to the universe that I appreciate everything in my life.

But today I've decided to make it official with a list!

This list is in no particular order, just as things came to me:

  1. My family, Team P and the extended folk. We all may be quirky, but we are quirky together.  And fiercely loyal. I love that.
  2. Being a SAHM.  I am so thankful I get to do this dream job of mine.
  3. The fact we can afford to live comfortably.  This is one of the things I am most thankful for in my life because I know a lot of people are struggling these days. (Which makes me sad.)
  4. That Marc and I are close, our kids are close to each other and they are close to us. I hope it stays this way forever.
  5. Coffee.  Enough said. And the fact Marc makes it for me every morning.
  6. Marc being such an involved dad.
  7. We send our kids to an amazing school with the BEST teachers!
  8. Music. Couldn't live without it.
  9. Nail polish.  I heart you Essie!
  10. I feel lucky to have high self esteem.  This may be insanely selfish/vain, but I put it because I give the credit 100% to my parents.  I hope I can raise my daughters to be strong, independent, confident women.
  11. That I have an education.  Not just a school education but life education.
  12. Friends.  I have some great, amazing, funny, honest, good, friends.  I wish they lived closer!
  13. Internet.
  14. A curious mind.  I am positive it will keep me young, engaged, and educated.
  15. Glasses /contacts and acne medication.  I'd be a mess without either.
  16. I love our house, the layout, the size, and our yard and the street we live on.  Perfect family home.
  17. Our bedtime routine is out of this world awesome.  It makes everyday special.  No matter what happened during the day, good, bad, ugly; even on days when I know I've yelled too many times and said things I shouldn't have, the bedtime routine reminds us all that we love each other.  Plus, I get to stare at their little baby faces.
  18. Venti caramel mocha from Starbucks.
  19. Kit Kats
  20. Love.  I love love, it's the best.  The bee's knees, the cat's pajamas.
What would be on your list?!

Prayer

Ok, this may be a controversial post, but I don't want to start a fight.  Debate is ok; mean, nastiness is not.  I am truly looking for a good conversation around this topic.  I reserve the right to delete any comments I don't like and possibly you as a friend.  Just kidding.  Maybe.

I was born and raised Catholic.  So it's sort of all I really know about religion.  And even with that, I don't know a lot.  So this is coming from my one-point perspective.

What is the purpose of prayer?  Is it simply to make us feel better?

Hear (read) me out for a second....

If life is predetermined prayer cannot help.  If our path has already been laid out, prayer will not change that.  If we pray for something and it happens, well it was just good timing.  If we don't get what we prayed for, we would not have gotten it anyway.

If prayer does work and can change our destiny, why aren't all prayers answered?  Why does an actor get to thank God for answering his/her prayers to win an award, but a kid getting bullied at school goes unheard?  And if God can pick and choose which prayers to answer, is that some sort of favoritism?  Does he already know who he is going to help or if someone prays really hard, really often, then he answers them?  How does he decide?

Again, not trying to down play prayer, I pray every single night and multiple times a day.  I am just starting to wonder if it's really a conversation I am having with myself, but lift it up to the Lord to make me feel calmer.  Or is all this prayer doing something and I am questioning it just because I am that type of person.  Maybe God made me this way??

I can tell you this, if there is a God, and there is a Heaven, he will probably wait a long, long time to let me enter...I have TOO many questions and topics I want to discuss with him.  I wonder if it's like the DMV, you get a number to gab with God? I'd be number 837,970,425,164,748,740. And that would be just to get to his secretary.

April Joy

It's April.

We made it.

This was the day I was waiting for.

March is done, it is in the past.  April, I welcome you with open arms.  I believe you are going to be great...you HAVE to be!

I found this on Pinterest and shall follow its order; I will talk about my joys.

To be honest, I had to look up the definition for joy.  Make sure I knew what I was talking about!  "Joy - noun - A feeling of great pleasure and happiness."

My Joys
When Gabe wakes up from a nap he picks out a lollipop.  He always picks one out for Carter.  (We are working on him picking one out for Harpie!)
Laughter from a room full of people.  Specifically MY people.
This cup of coffee I am drinking.
When I hear Carter singing in her room instead of sleeping.
Harper's signature pose when I am trying to take a picture.
When you hear birds chirping back and forth to each other.  I love that they have conversations.
Marc's drawings for the kids.
A perfectly temperatured bath...easier said than done.
Inside jokes with an old friend.
Purposely mommyjacking someone on facebook.
Reading something so powerful you cry.  Yes, this brings me joy. Don't ask me why because I don't know.
My kids' voices...they are so little and tiny, but have so much to say.
The first bite of food that I've been craving.  It always tastes sooooo good.
When my nails are painted.
When a song comes on the radio that you haven't heard in forever and you actually get to listen to the whole thing! This just happened with A-ha's "Take On Me".  I challenge you to find a more perfect pop song.
My greatest joy, though, is my marriage and family.  We are tough, we stick together, we pull each other up when we need it, we pull each other along when needed, always there, no matter what.  Definitely my JOY.

What are some of your joys?!
